The whole plan works from June 1 to October 4, 2026 (checked 2 October 2026), and each day that changes outside it carries an alternative.

- 06:45
Banff High School Transit Hub
Custom spot
Board the 8X on your Super Pass reservation: about 57 minutes to the Lake Louise Lakeshore. Walk-up riders can wait up to 2 hours on summer days, so the reserved seat is the point.

If the Super Pass is sold out
Moraine Lake is then out of reach without a car, unless you book a licensed tour operator. The 8X keeps about 40% of every bus for walk-up riders ($12.50 adult), so go early and give Lake Louise the whole day.

Before June or after October 12
The Super Pass and the Lake Connector run only from June 1 to October 12, 2026, the Parks Canada shuttles stop on October 12 too, and Moraine Lake Road is closed to every vehicle from mid October to late May, so Moraine Lake is out of reach. The Lake Agnes Tea House is shut outside its summer season as well. The 8X runs daily all year, so make it a Lake Louise day. 2027 dates are not published yet.

Day 3: Johnston Canyon to The Maple Leaf

Routes 4 and 6 run until October 4, 2026, and Route 9 daily until October 12 (checked 2 October 2026). You fly home tomorrow, and the Airporter takes no walk-ups for Banff departures, so book the ride back to Calgary now.
- 08:00
Johnston Canyon
Activity
Route 9 from downtown, about an hour, walk-up only ($5 adult). Catwalks to the Lower Falls, 1.2 km, and the Upper Falls, 2.5 km one way. Parks Canada closed the trail for safety work on May 2, 2026 and listed it in good condition on September 29; no reopening notice was found, so check the Banff bulletins the night before.

- 08:30
Tunnel Mountain Summit
Activity
The trailhead is about 15 minutes on foot from downtown: 2.4 km one way and 260 m up, with the town and the Bow Valley below.
Another way to do day 3
Outside the summer bus season
Routes 4 and 6 run from May 13 to October 4, 2026, so outside those dates the lake and the springs by bus drop out of the afternoon; walk to Cave and Basin and the Vermilion Lakes instead. Route 9 runs daily only until October 12, then on weekends and statutory holidays from October 17, so there is none October 13 to 16 or on later weekdays: on a day it is not running, take the Tunnel Mountain morning instead. From October 16 Cave and Basin opens Thursday to Monday only, 11:00 to 17:00, and it is closed October 22 to 24, 2026.
