Open the day you're asking about, name the town if it isn't where that day's stops are, and put your limits in the message. Scout answers from what each message carries, and the same holds on a trip you pasted in after planning with ChatGPT or Claude.
What it reads
- The trip: name, destination, dates, how it travels, the car picked for it, and your preferences and note from Make Scout yours.
- The open day: each stop's time, name, type and length, its free windows between 08:00 and 22:00, and the forecast if the day is dated within 16 days.
- Every other day's stops.
- The budget's planned and remaining totals and the fuel estimate, when the trip has them (both on Pro, $4.99 CAD a month).
- The last 8 messages, with the places Scout suggested named, so "the second one" still works.
What it can't see
Scout never reads your stop notes, addresses or costs, the Ideas pen, trip chat, Notes, or anyone else's Scout thread. Your Travel Data vault stays out too, unless you are on Discovery, $9.99 CAD a month, with Read my documents on in Scout options, the same switch as Vault access in Settings.
Where it searches
Scout searches within about 35 km of the middle of the stops on the open day, or of the last stop when the day spreads farther, as on a driving day. An empty day borrows the nearest day with stops. Name a town to move the search; the lookup starts near your trip, so "dinner in Paris" on an Ontario trip finds Paris, Ontario. For lunch on the road, name a town along the way.
Scout options, under the message box, adds Near a place and Use my location (off by default). Near a place wins and stays set on every day and trip until you clear it or reload; a dot beside Scout options means a switch is on.
How to ask for a change
Say what to retime ("push dinner to 19:30"), set a length ("give the museum 2 hours"), move by day number ("move the museum to day 3") or drop ("drop the market"). Scout proposes up to 6 changes at once; Meet Scout covers applying and undoing them. For a swap, ask for both: Scout can propose removing the old stop and suggest cards for the new one, but adding it is your tap.
What it can't do
Scout can't book or see whether a table or room is free. Its free windows don't subtract travel time between stops, so leave room for the drive or ask Scout to allow for it. Anything that isn't a card, lounges and terminal changes included, comes from the model's general knowledge (Treader holds no lounge data): check the official source before you rely on it.
Tip
The trap is trusting the whole thread: Scout reads only the last 8 messages, though the rest stays on screen, so name anything older again. A message holds 500 characters, and a thread stops at 30 until you clear it with Clear chat, which costs nothing.

- The open day's stops, free time and forecast, the other days' stops, your saved preferences, the budget and fuel estimate when set, and the last 8 messages.
- Why does Scout suggest places near my stops instead of where I am?
- It searches around the day you have open by default. Name a town, or pick Near a place or Use my location in Scout options.
- Can Scout book a table or check availability?
- No. It reads each place's opening hours and avoids suggesting a time it's closed, but it can't book, hold a table or see whether one is free.
- Why did Scout forget something I said earlier?
- It reads only the last 8 messages, so restate anything older. Each day also has its own thread: what you said on Day 2 doesn't carry over to Day 3.
