Travel Data is a private vault for the paperwork of a trip: flights and stays, passports and insurance, receipts and loyalty numbers, held as records instead of scattered through email. It also checks your passports against the countries your flights land in before you fly. It is part of Discovery, $9.99 CAD a month or $99.99 a year.
Where it is
Open it from the main menu, under You, or from the command palette (⌘K). Free and Pro see a page about Discovery there instead of a vault.
What goes in
- Documents stores images and PDFs, 10 MB each and 2 GB in total, filed under Flights, Stays, Transport, Insurance, Identity, Receipts or Other. Any other file type is refused, even one renamed to look like an image.
- Records has five ledgers, Flight, Stay, Transport, Insurance and Receipt, each linkable to a trip and to a backing document.
- Wallet holds passports, visas, IDs, loyalty programs, emergency contacts and insurance policies. Passport, visa and ID numbers show only their last 3 characters until you tap them.
- Claims drafts and tracks flight compensation claims.
- Overview sums it up in four tiles and a Needs attention list: a passport, visa or ID expiring within 6 months of your next flight on file, a sent claim within 14 days of its reply deadline or past it, a vault over 80% full.
Filling it without typing
Paste anything turns a flight or hotel confirmation, as text, a PDF or a screenshot, into records when Save bookings to Travel Data is ticked. A forwarding address in Settings does the same by email, holding each message as a draft until you tick what lands. A file uploaded to Documents is only stored, never read, so a boarding pass uploaded on its own never shows up in Records.
The passport check before you fly
On Discovery, Trip Hub ▸ Overview has a Travel documents panel. It checks each passport in your Wallet against the entry rule of every country the trip's flights land in, skipping the passport's own country, and measures from your trip's end date: the Schengen area wants 3 months past the day you leave. Each rule links its official source and was checked in August 2026. It also names the entry authorization each passport needs, such as ESTA, eTA or ETIAS. A passport that falls short, or clears the line by under a month, becomes a row in Trip check.
Who can see it
Only you. No collaborator, viewer or public trip page can read it, and on a shared trip the passport check reads only your own Wallet. Scout sees nothing until you turn on Scout vault access in Settings; Read my documents in Scout options is the same switch. Then Scout gets a short text summary of your records, document names and claims, never the files, with passport, visa and ID numbers cut to their last 3 characters. Loyalty and policy numbers and emergency contacts go as saved.
Tip
The passport check reads only Wallet cards saved as a Passport, and only arrivals by flight, so a road trip across a land border never triggers it. Write the Country field out in full: a Canadian passport saved as CA misses its home country and its exemptions, and gets told it needs an ESTA for the US and an eTA to fly home. Paperwork is one stage of the trip planning checklist.
Common questions
- Who can see the documents in my Treader vault?
- Only you. The database lets only the owner read vault documents, records, claims and wallet cards, so trip collaborators, viewers and public trip pages never reach them.
- Does Scout read my passport and bookings?
- Only after you turn on Scout vault access, which is off by default. Scout then gets a short text summary of your records, document names and claims, with passport numbers cut to their last 3 characters, never the files.
- Will Treader tell me if my passport expires too soon for a trip?
- On Discovery, yes. The Trip Hub checks each Wallet passport against the entry rule of every country your flights land in and adds a Trip check row when it falls short, on screen rather than by email or push.
- What happens to my vault if I cancel Discovery?
- Nothing is deleted, but Travel Data shows the Discovery page instead of your vault and refuses new uploads. Export my data includes your records and claims but not the files, so save copies before your plan ends.
