Export or delete your account

In Settings under Data, on every plan: download a JSON file of your trips and records, or delete your Treader account for good, which ends any paid plan too.

Export my data and Delete account are both in Settings under Data, on every plan including Free. The export downloads one JSON file of the trips you own, your spots and your records. Deleting removes the account at once, with no way back, and ends any paid plan with it. To stop paying but keep your trips, cancel instead: Plans, pricing and billing shows how, and How Treader works what Free still does.

What the export contains

The Download button saves treader-export.json: your profile, the trips you own (including any in the trash), saved spots, moments, follows, and your Travel Data records, claims and documents. Left out:

  • Direct messages and trip chat, since a conversation belongs to more than one person.
  • Trips you joined but do not own.
  • Notes, spot collections and trip album photos.
  • The files behind your uploads: a vault document exports as its entry, not the scan.

Before you delete

  1. 1 Paid time left on a monthly or yearly plan? Email support@treader.ca first. Deleting ends the plan on the spot and does not refund the unused part by itself.
  2. 2 Download the export, and save by hand the scans, album photos and notes you want to keep.
  3. 3 If friends still use a trip you own, share it publicly so they can copy it from its public page. There is no way to hand a trip over. The public page leaves out your budget, costs and Ideas, and a copy arrives undated, with no members.
  4. 4 In Settings under Data, tap Delete account, type DELETE, then tap Permanently delete.

What happens when you delete your account

The account goes at once, with no grace period, and you are signed out. Every trip you own is deleted for everyone on it. On other people's trips you are removed, along with the chat messages and photos you added there. Uploaded files are wiped from storage. If Stripe cannot cancel your subscription at that moment, the delete is refused until it can, so billing never outlives the account.

Common questions

Does deleting my Treader account cancel my subscription?
Yes. Deleting cancels any subscription straight away and ends a lifetime plan too. Paid time left is not refunded automatically, so email support@treader.ca before you delete if you want the unused part back.
Can a deleted Treader account be recovered?
No. Deletion is immediate and permanent, with no grace period, and the files behind your uploads are erased with it. Export your data first if you might want it later.
What happens to trips I share with other people when I delete my account?
Trips you own are deleted for everyone on them, and there is no way to hand one over first. On trips other people own, you are removed along with the chat messages and photos you added there.
Does Treader keep anything after I delete my account?
Stripe keeps its payment and invoice records. The guides email list keeps your address until you unsubscribe from a list email, and a vote on someone else's date poll keeps the name you typed, unlinked from you.

Tip

The 30-day trash that catches a deleted trip does not catch an account. Once you tap Permanently delete, your trips are gone for you and for every friend on them, so publish or export first, not after.
