Treader has three plans, priced in Canadian dollars, with any tax shown at checkout before you pay. Free plans trips of up to 7 days with no card and no end date. Pro costs $4.99 CAD a month or $49.99 a year, and Discovery costs $9.99 a month, $99.99 a year, or $299.99 once for life. There is no trial: a paid plan charges the day you buy it. How Treader works sets out what each plan is for.

Prices in Canadian dollars, checked September 2026 against the pricing page. Annual saves 17% on both paid plans, and Discovery includes everything in Pro. Editors sit beside the trip owner; viewers never take a seat. *Unlimited Scout is for your own trip planning, under our fair use terms.
What each plan gets
- Free: the live map, up to 50 trips, Scout, cost estimates, Trip check, a live calendar feed, and the trip album with a shareable recap.
- Pro adds a deeper Scout check on each pick, a trip budget that Scout reads, receipts and a cost split for the group, a packing list built from the route and forecast, live flight status, last train home, a price watch on 3 booked stays, the offline map and Optimize this day.
- Discovery adds the Travel Data vault for documents, records and a wallet, flight claims drafted for you (up to $1,000 for a delay on a large airline and $2,400 for bumping, in Canada), booking confirmations pasted or forwarded into Travel Data, and a campground watch for sold-out sites.
Trip length, editor seats and album photos follow the plan of the trip's owner, so friends join your trip free; Scout messages and place-card detail follow each person's own plan. Joining a trip never opens your Travel Data vault, garage or Scout chats to the others. Every plan holds up to 50 owned trips, an anti-spam ceiling, and trips in the trash do not count.
Monthly, yearly or once for life
Monthly can be dropped at the end of any month. Yearly costs about 10 months of the monthly price, which is where the 17% comes from, and Treader emails you 30 to 60 days before it renews. Lifetime is Discovery only, costs the same as 3 years of annual Discovery, and never renews; Pro is not sold that way.
- Buying lifetime while subscribed cancels the subscription and refunds its unused part within 15 days.
- A full refund of the lifetime charge ends the plan.
- If Treader shuts down within 3 years of a purchase (from 11 September 2026), 1/36 of the price comes back per full month left, per the refund policy.
Where billing lives
Billing lives in Settings, on the Billing tab, under a row showing your plan, amount, renewal date and Scout this month. A live subscription gets the Subscription panel: Payment method, Billing details and Invoices. Card numbers go straight to Stripe, the payment processor, and never reach Treader. Lifetime shows a Membership panel with its receipt, and a referral month shows Pro via referral with its end date.
Tip
Removing your only card while auto-renew is on is refused: add another card or turn auto-renew off first. With another card on file, removing the default moves the default to that card on its own.
Change your plan
- 1 Open the plan picker: See plans or Keep Pro in Settings under Billing, Manage your plan in the command palette (⌘K), or any upgrade prompt. A paying member has no plan button in Settings.
- 2 On Free or a referral month, pick Annual or Monthly, then Get Pro or Get Discovery. Checkout opens in the same dialog, with Discovery for life below the plans.
- 3 Already paying, tap Upgrade to Discovery or Switch to Pro. It swaps your one subscription and keeps its cadence, so there is never a second one to cancel.
- 4 The dialog shows the prorated amount before Confirm switch. An upgrade charges the difference today; a declined card changes nothing. A downgrade applies at once and credits the difference to your next invoice, not your card.
- 5 Monthly to annual is Switch to annual in Settings under Billing. Yearly to monthly starts at renewal, scheduled from Open the Stripe billing portal.
A promotion code goes in at checkout, on a new purchase only, never on a plan change. If you confirmed a sign-up to the guides email list with your account's address, or joined a trip from a friend's date poll, and have never paid Treader before, 25% comes off your first monthly invoice with no code. On a paid plan, referring friends can earn free months of Pro.
Cancel and refunds
Cancel subscription in Settings under Billing turns off auto-renew: the plan keeps working to the end of the period already paid for, and Resume subscription undoes it until then. Emailing support@treader.ca from your account address cancels too. What comes back depends on when you cancel, and the refund policy covers every case.
- After a renewal: cancel and the unused days come back, the renewal amount times the days left divided by the days in the period, to your card within 15 days. The cancel itself counts as the request, and paid features end when the refund is issued.
- First month or year, and lifetime: not refundable once paid features start, except where the law gives a right to cancel.
- UK, EU, EEA and Switzerland: a new plan can be cancelled within 14 days of buying for a full refund, by email.
What changes if you stop paying
When a renewal fails, Treader emails you and retries the card, and the plan keeps working meanwhile. If the retries fail, or a cancelled plan runs out, the account drops to Free and nothing is deleted. A 20-day trip still opens and saves but cannot get longer. Editors already on it stay, but no new editor joins while the trip is at or over Free's 1. Travel Data is kept and is in your account export, but the vault shows the Discovery pitch instead of your documents until you subscribe again.
Tip
Deleting your account ends any paid plan on the spot, lifetime included, and paid time left is not refunded automatically. If time is left on a monthly or yearly plan, email support@treader.ca before you delete, not after. Export or delete your account has the rest.
