Save a guide as a PDF to read offline

Guide pages need a connection to load. Save as PDF, at the top of every guide, opens your print dialog for a copy you can read with no signal.

Press Save as PDF at the top of any guide and save the file from the print dialog your browser opens. That file is the only way to read a guide offline: Treader does not store guide pages, so each one needs a connection to load. Parks Canada describes the Icefields Parkway as "a remote roadway with limited services and no cell coverage".

Saving a guide

  1. 1 Open the guide you want.
  2. 2 Choose Save as PDF at the top of the page.
  3. 3 In the print dialog your browser opens, pick Save as PDF (or a printer) and save the file where you can find it offline.

What prints and what does not

The printed page keeps the text, steps, key facts and links, each link with its address printed beside it except inside tables. It drops the header, footer, guide rail, the list of sections and the end-of-guide prompts, along with the Save as PDF button itself.

  • Maps print as the place name, since an interactive map means nothing on paper.
  • Photos print a little lighter, though they still use ink; figures print as drawn.

Pro, $4.99 CAD a month, adds the offline pack, one file of the whole trip with a route sketch per day and each stop's details, and the offline map, up to 2,000 map tiles saved from Trip hub > Overview. Tip

Save the guides you will need before you leave the last town with coverage, bear safety above all. Treader keeps no copy of a guide you read yesterday, so it will not reopen with no signal.
