Save a guide to read later, or print it as a PDF
Park valleys, canyons and most of the Icefields Parkway have no mobile signal at all. The most reliable travel document is still a PDF on your phone, or a sheet of paper in a pocket, and every guide here is built to become one.
Saving a guide
- 1 Open the guide you want.
- 2 Choose Save as PDF at the top of the page.
- 3 Your browser opens its print dialog. Pick Save as PDF as the destination, then save.
- 4 On a phone, use the share menu and choose Print or Save as PDF, then keep it in your files app.
The printed version drops the navigation, the search box and the site chrome, and keeps the text, the checklists, the key facts and the links, with each link's full address printed beside it so it is still usable on paper.
What does not come along
- Map embeds do not print, since an interactive map is meaningless on paper. The guide prints the location name instead.
- Photographs are kept but print lighter, so they do not consume a cartridge.
- Anything you need at a trailhead, meaning checklists, safety steps, distances and official phone numbers, is in the text rather than in an image.
The rest of your trip, offline
A guide PDF covers the reading. For the plan itself, the trip page holds your stops, times and bookings, and Pro can download a self-contained offline pack for the day you are travelling. Between a guide PDF and an offline pack, a day with no signal works normally.
Tip
Save the guides you will need before you leave the last town with coverage. This applies particularly to bear safety and altitude and heat, which you want at hand exactly where the signal is not.
Common questions
- Can you download Treader guides as a PDF?
- Yes. Every guide has a Save as PDF option that opens your browser's print dialog, where you choose PDF as the destination.
- Do the guides work without an internet connection?
- Once saved as a PDF, yes, completely. The live pages need a connection, which is why saving before you lose signal is worth the ten seconds.
- Can you print a Treader guide?
- Yes, and the print layout is designed for it: no navigation, no search box, and every link's full address printed beside the link text.
