Plan a trip Part of Pro

Take the trip offline as one file

Pro downloads the whole plan as one page that opens with no signal: a route sketch per day, full stop details and a pocket guide.

The offline pack is one file on your phone that opens in any browser with no signal and no sign-in. It comes with Pro, $4.99 CAD a month, and sits in the Share popup beside the free Print / Save as PDF.

Download it

  1. 1 Open the trip in the planner and press Share in the top bar. On a narrow screen the button shows only its share icon.
  2. 2 Choose Offline pack. The file downloads named after the trip, ending in _offline.html.
  3. 3 Open it once with the signal off, to be sure the phone kept it.
  4. 4 On Free, Offline pack carries a Pro tag, and pressing it opens the Pro upgrade instead.

What is in the file

  • Every day that has stops, in order, with times, the travel time between stops and your notes. Empty days and the Ideas pen stay out.
  • A route sketch for each day: stops numbered in visit order and joined by straight lines, drawn from their coordinates. It needs at least two stops with a location in different spots.
  • For each stop, its address, description, rating and price where known, plus its coordinates to type into any navigation app.
  • Flights with their number, airports and times, and the planned spend per day when the trip has a budget.
  • A pocket guide for the country, when Treader can tell it from the destination or the stop addresses: money, plugs and voltage, the emergency number, tap water, tipping, which side of the road they drive on, a few phrases where we have them, and which transit ticket to buy in up to three cities.
  • No photos and no web fonts. Nothing in the file reaches the internet, which is why it opens on a plane.

It knows what day it is

Open the file on a day of the trip and it folds every other day away, leaving today open. Stops with a time are marked from the phone's own clock: the ones you are done with fade, and the one you should be at now is highlighted. Between stops, the next one is flagged instead. A stop with no time is left alone. On any other day, or with scripts turned off, every day simply stays open. A trip with no dates counts Day 1 as the day you downloaded it.

The free version: Print / Save as PDF

On every plan, Print / Save as PDF in the same popup opens a clean print view of the scheduled days in a new window and brings up the print dialog, where you can print it or save it as a PDF. If the browser blocks the new window, the same page downloads as an HTML file you can open and print. It carries times, addresses, flights, travel legs and notes, with no photos, route sketches or pocket guide.

Tip

Keep both. The offline map is the map that moves with you; the offline pack is the page that opens anywhere. For a calendar copy, see Put the trip in your calendar.

Common questions

Does the offline pack update when the plan changes?
No. The file is a copy of the plan at the moment you downloaded it. Change the trip and download a fresh pack before you lose signal.
Do I need Treader or an account to open the offline pack?
No. It is a single HTML file that opens in any phone or laptop browser, with no sign-in and no internet connection needed.
