On this page
On the trip you care about one day, and mostly the next two hours. Today mode shows that day against the clock, by your device's date, and moves the planner to it so the map agrees.
Open it
- 1 Open the trip and tap the clock button in the trip bar (tooltip Day-of plan). A dot means the trip is running today.
- 2 On a computer, ⌘K or Ctrl-K and Open Today also works. Until your first trip has three stops, the button shows there only while the trip is running.
- 3 Close it with the X (Back to the map), the clock button, or Esc.
What the day shows
- The live read: when the day starts, then Now and Next with their times and the travel between, and a line reading On schedule. or About 20m behind the plan.
- The timeline: every stop with its time and length, marked done, now or ahead.
- Conditions: the high, daylight hours and soft light for photos, then rain chance, wind, UV, air quality and more, coloured past a warning line. An outdoor stop running past sunset gets a line saying by how much.
- Pocket guide: money, plugs and voltage, the emergency number, tap water, driving side, tipping, transit passes for the trip's cities, and a few phrases in some countries. It links the Wikivoyage travel guide for the province or country and, abroad, your own government's travel advice (for travellers from Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland). On a trip in your home country, set in Settings > Units, the travel guide comes first and the basics fold away.
- Jet lag the day you land and the day after, when a flight shifts your clock 3 hours or more: a short nudge, or on Pro the day's sleep, light and coffee times and the whole plan.
When the day slips
On Pro, $4.99 CAD a month, two buttons change the plan. Running late? Push the rest from now re-times the stops still ahead, moving each only as far as it must to be reachable; later slack absorbs the slip, and flights, ferries, trains and buses stay put. When the forecast has a rain window and the day has three or more stops, Dodge the rain: move outdoor stops to dry hours reorders the day around it. A day with one of those journeys partway through cannot be reordered, and Today says so. When something moves, Undo stays up for a few seconds.
The ride home and the road ahead
On Pro, once the day is under way, Today shows when to leave for tonight's last train if it was checked, and on a late night offers Turn it on if push is off on this device. Closures and warnings on today's drives from DriveBC, Alberta 511, Ontario 511 and WSDOT show with their source, and a crossing between Canada and the US shows the wait the agency has posted. Free plans still see the crossing by name, with nearby alternatives.
Before and after the trip
A trip with no dates offers Set dates in the Trip hub. Outside its dates, a trip says how many days until it starts, or that it has wrapped. An empty day reads "Nothing planned today. A free day is a fine plan too." View-only members see a View only tag and none of the buttons that change the plan.
Tip
Save the offline map the night before. Today then shows Map saved in its header.
Common questions
- Is Today mode free?
- Yes. The live day, timeline, conditions, pocket guide and jet lag nudge are free. Pushing the day from now, dodging the rain, the last train home, road conditions, posted border waits and the full jet lag plan are Pro.
- Why is Today on a different day from the planner?
- Today follows the date on your device, not the day open in the planner, so the behind-the-plan count is honest.
