Notes is in the Plan section of the menu, with Planner and My Trips: a home for booking confirmations, packing lists, day sketches and anything else not quite an itinerary. Every note and checklist sits in the list on the left.

Resize it to fit your work

Drag the thin handle between the list and the editor, or the one beside Scout; double-click a handle to reset its width. On a narrow window Scout starts closed so the editor keeps the space; Show Scout at the top of a note opens it.

Start from a template

More ways to start, beside New note above the list, holds a blank checklist and six templates:

  • Booking log: flights, stays, rentals and activities, every confirmation number in one place.
  • Day plan: a morning, afternoon and evening sketch.
  • Food and drink wishlist: restaurants and cafes worth a detour.
  • Trip journal: a day with prompts for where you went and what to remember.
  • Trip retro: what to keep, what to change, and a nudge to check the real numbers.
  • Pre-trip countdown: a before-you-go checklist.

In More ways to start beside New note, Packing list from Scout drafts a packing checklist from your active trip's destination, month, length and stops. If Scout cannot answer, you get a standard list.

Chips that carry real data

  • Place: search for a location and drop it in as a chip. It also feeds the map's From your notes layer. Pro.
  • Trip: embed any of your trips with its dates, days and stop count. Free.
  • Trip data: reference a budget, receipt or day from a trip. Pro.
  • Note: link to another note or checklist in your list. Free.

Hovering or tapping a trip chip opens a card with its stats and, if you are on that trip, Open trip. On a trip you are on, a budget or receipt chip jumps to the Trip Hub and a day chip to that day in the planner.

Scout is in the sidebar

The right panel is Scout, the same voice as in the planner and the same allowance: ask for ideas, a packing list, or to sum the receipt amounts in a note. A Reading this note pill above the message box is on by default whenever a doc is open, so Scout reads it. Turn it off to ask a plain travel question.

Write together

The owner shares from the share button at the top of a note, as Edit (Can edit) or View (Can view), or taps Send copy to send a read-only copy instead. Free shares each note with 1 person, Pro with 3, Discovery with 10. Anyone else in the doc appears at the top; in a note, their named cursor shows where they are. Only the owner sees Move to folder or Delete; someone you shared with sees Leave instead.

See it on the map

Turn on From your notes in Settings, under Map, and every place chip across your notes shows as a dot on the map, whether or not it is a stop on a trip. It is off by default.

Tip

Place and Trip data chips need Pro. Notes, templates, trip chips and note links are free.

Common questions

Does a trip chip go stale once I insert it?
Not for a trip you are on: hovering or tapping the chip refreshes its name, dates, days and stops from the live trip. Someone who is not on that trip sees the numbers from the last refresh.
Can Scout see my whole note when I ask it something?
Only while the Reading pill is on, the default with a doc open. Scout then reads that one document, up to its first 4,000 characters, and none of your other notes.
