Build a packing list from your trip

Treader builds a packing list from the trip itself: its length, the forecast, your stops and how you travel, with shared gear listed once for the group.

Treader builds a packing list from what the plan already knows: how long you are away, the forecast for your dates, your stops and how you get between them. No AI writes it, so every row traces back to the trip. Building a list is part of Pro, $4.99 CAD a month.

Build it

  1. 1 Open the trip, then the Trip hub from the top bar, and pick the Packing tab.
  2. 2 Tap Build my list. Treader reads the trip and checks the forecast for up to five of your dates.
  3. 3 The list arrives grouped by category, with a packed count across the top.

What goes on it

  • The basics: passport or ID, booking confirmations, phone charger, toiletries, medications, walking shoes, a day bag, a water bottle, a first-aid kit.
  • Clothing counts: socks, underwear and tops for each day, capped at seven, because the list assumes a wash every 7 days. A trip longer than a week adds travel laundry soap.
  • Weather: a rain shell when the forecast says rain is likely, an insulated jacket, hat and gloves for cold, sunscreen, sunglasses, a sun hat and shorts for heat. Before the forecast reaches your dates, the season decides.
  • Your stops: hiking boots and trail snacks for a trail, a swimsuit and quick-dry towel for a beach or lake, a tent, sleeping bag and headlamp for a campground, one dressier outfit for fine dining or the theatre, ski wear for the slopes.
  • How you travel: a 100 ml liquids bag and a power adapter for flights, motion sickness tablets for a ferry, a car phone mount and a roadside kit for driving days.

Make it yours

  • Tick the box beside an item once it is in the bag.
  • Click an item to rename it. Enter saves, Escape puts the old name back. A renamed item is yours, so a rebuild may add the original back; remove that copy and it stays gone.
  • Remove (the X) takes an item off, and a generated item you remove stays gone when the list is rebuilt.
  • Add your own at the bottom: type it, pick a category, turn on Shared if one covers the group, then Add.

Shared gear

When the trip has more than one person under People, the tent, camp kitchen, roadside kit and first-aid kit start out shared. The people button at the end of a row, shown on hover, switches the item between one each and one for the group. A shared item gets a menu to pick who brings it, and reads Unclaimed until someone does.

When the plan changes

Regenerate reads the trip again and merges in anything new, such as a hike you added or a colder forecast. Your own items, your ticks and the items you removed are kept. Ask Scout for extras uses one Scout message on ideas beyond the rules and adds anything new under Other.

Tip

From three days before the start, Trip check counts what is still unticked, so the list you built at home follows you to the door.

Common questions

Can I use a packing list on the free plan?
Building a list needs Pro. Once a trip has a list, anyone who can edit the trip can tick, rename, add and remove items on any plan, and the list stays with the trip if the owner later leaves Pro.
Does regenerating the packing list erase my changes?
No. Regenerate adds what is new and updates counts only on items you have not ticked or renamed. Your own items, ticks and removals stay as they are.
